A paint booth is the biggest equipment decision most body shops make. It sets how many cars you can paint a day, how clean your finishes come out and whether you pass inspection. In New York, it also has to fit buildings with low ceilings, tight bays and some of the strictest fire codes in the country.
This guide covers what New York shop owners ask us most about AccuDraft booths: which model fits which shop, how the airflow types differ, what NYC and Long Island permits involve, and what drives the price. Automotive Facility Service is the exclusive AccuDraft distributor for New York City, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester, and our own crew has installed AccuDraft booths across the area.
Why New York shops choose AccuDraft
AccuDraft has built paint booths for more than 40 years, and its panels are made in the US. Shops choose it for three reasons:
- Speed. Downdraft airflow and heated cure cycles get cars through the booth faster, which matters when you're running waterborne and low-VOC paints.
- Finish quality. Clean, controlled airflow means less dirt in the paint and fewer redos.
- Long service life. AccuDraft owners report booths still running after 15 years with regular maintenance.
For New York shops, there's a fourth reason: AccuDraft has a local distributor that sells, installs, services and stocks parts, so you're not waiting on a crew from out of state when something goes down.

The AccuDraft lineup: which booth fits your shop
Titan downdraft
The Titan is AccuDraft's top-performance booth. It's built for high-volume collision centers that paint all day and need the fastest cycle times, especially with waterborne basecoats. If your booth is your bottleneck, start here.
Italia and Italia Alto downdraft
The Italia is AccuDraft's long-running flagship downdraft booth for production body shops. The Italia Alto has a 12 ft internal height for tall vehicles like Ford Transits and delivery vans, which makes it a fit for fleet shops and dealers that service commercial vans.
SS Space Saver
The Space Saver puts the air units overhead instead of beside the booth, so it takes far less floor space. You can spray, flash, cure and cool down in one booth. For shops in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx where every square foot counts, this is often the right answer.

MX Series
The MX Series is the most flexible line. It comes in downdraft, semi-downdraft and side draft setups, so we can match the booth to your building instead of the other way around.
PRO Series
The PRO Series is AccuDraft's economy line, in crossflow and other configurations, heated or unheated. It's a good fit for smaller shops, restoration shops and anyone replacing an old open-face booth on a budget.
Prep stations, mix rooms and truck booths
A booth works best as part of a system. AccuDraft prep stations let you prime and sand outside the booth so it stays free for paint. Mix rooms give you a safe, ventilated space to mix paint and clean guns. For fleets and heavy equipment, AccuDraft builds truck and large-equipment booths.

Crossdraft, semi-downdraft, side draft or downdraft?
Airflow is the biggest choice after size. Here's how the four types compare:
Crossdraft
Semi-downdraft
Side draft
Downdraft| Airflow | How the air moves | Finish quality | Building needs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crossdraft | Front doors to back wall | Good | Simplest install | Budget, light volume |
| Semi-downdraft | Ceiling at the front, exhaust at the back | Better | No pit | Mid-volume shops |
| Side draft | Ceiling down, exhaust through the side walls | Very good | No pit | Shops that can't dig a pit |
| Downdraft | Straight down from ceiling to floor | Best | Pit or raised base | High-volume collision |
In many New York buildings, digging a pit isn't practical. A side draft booth or a downdraft booth on a raised base gets you close to full downdraft performance without breaking the floor. We'll tell you which options fit during the site visit.
Paint booth permits in NYC, Long Island and Westchester
This is where New York projects differ most from the rest of the country.
New York City. Spray booths must meet FDNY fire code and NYC Department of Buildings requirements. Expect to cover fire suppression, exhaust and ventilation, electrical and, for heated booths, gas. Most projects need drawings filed by a licensed professional.
Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester. Your town or village building department and fire marshal set the requirements. They vary from town to town, so the same booth can need different paperwork in Hempstead than in Brookhaven.
What we do. We visit your shop before you buy, check ceiling height, exhaust route, power and gas, and tell you what the project will need. We provide the equipment drawings and documents your engineer and the inspectors ask for, and coordinate with your electrician, plumber and HVAC contractor. That's how you avoid buying a booth that doesn't fit or can't be approved.
What drives the cost of an AccuDraft booth
Every booth is quoted for the shop it's going into. The biggest factors are:
- Model and airflow type. A Titan downdraft costs more than a PRO crossflow.
- Size. Standard car length, extended length for trucks and vans, or extra height.
- Heat and cure. Heated booths with cure cycles cost more upfront and pay back in throughput.
- Pit or raised base. Digging and pouring a pit adds cost, and a raised base adds some too.
- Building work. Exhaust stacks, makeup air, electrical service, gas lines and fire suppression.
- Extras. Prep stations, mix rooms, lighting packages and control upgrades.
The fastest way to a real number is a site visit. Request a quote and we'll give you one clear price covering the booth, the installation and the trades we coordinate.

Keeping your booth running
A booth only makes money when it's running. Change filters on schedule, check airflow and pressure regularly, and have the burner, fans and controls inspected at least once a year. We service AccuDraft booths across NYC, Long Island and Westchester, including booths we didn't install.
